CedarStone is officially in the City of Eugene's pre-approved ADU library and announced to over 18,000 City subscribers
Feeling excited and proud as we reach a huge milestone: the city of Eugene has sent out an announcement of our pre-approved ADU in its newsletter to over 18,000 subscribers.
How long have we been working toward this? There are so many ways that CedarStone has described the origin of this project.
It could be said that the vision started in each of us before we even met. Owner and Construction Director, Cueyo Cataldo, dreamed of one day building sustainable homes for his community. Adrienne Fainman, CEO, dreamed of using architecture as a form of radical change.
It could also be said that it started in Ottawa where Cueyo and Adrienne worked with Douglas Cardinal to design and build the first prototype of a multi-generational family home that would serve communities across the North. This was where they learned about Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and how elegantly this method of construction improves housing in every single way, from performance to constructability to beauty.
It could also be said that it started almost two years ago when the City of Eugene put out a call for house designs for their new ADU pre-approval program. This was when CedarStone truly took a chance. We spent almost a year developing a design with detailed construction drawings, complete with engineering to submit to the city. We were under the strictest review and presenting a totally new way to build. After many more months of working with the city reviewers, we were finally approved!
Not only does this mean we have a design that is pre-approved and ready to build, but it also means that the city has vetted our innovative approach with CLT, and we can move forward with confidence when it comes to permitting! The sky is the limit now - we can design freely with CLT, creating homes that are truly pieces of art. We put our hearts into this work and we are so excited to share our art and provide people with beautiful multi-generational family homes that are healthy, innovative, and resilient.
This is the moment we've been waiting for.
Our design is finally up on the city's website and out in front of over 18,000 people!
